THE NEW PARADIGM IN POLITICS global online symposium was organized by The Laszlo Institute of New Paradigm Research. It was a great honor for us that our President, István Teplán had the opportunity to take part in the event as a Panelist.

In his intervention Teplán has elaborated  that the democratic states are still the minority (around 10 % of the countries of the World). According to the 2019 democracy index : out of the 195 countries of the World some 20 countries categorized as “full democracy”, around 50 countries are “flawed democracies” including some EU member states, and the rest  are hybrid regimes and some 50 of them are full-fledged authoritarian regimes.

Unfortunately the group of full democratic states is not growing on the contrary, countries are sinking into less democratic status (Brazil, Hungary, Poland, etc.) What is even more concerning is that the emerging world powers are  authoritarian countries such as China, Russia, Turkey,  (Trump’s USA was a “flawed democracy”), India also experienced a democratic backlash.

Most of the democratic countries are in Europe and members of the EU. Unfortunately the EU is going through its own crisis after Brexit, we observe  the emergence of authoritarian regimes on its peripheries, most clearly characterized by the so-called “orbanism”. 

Unfortunately the future of our World is in the hands of emerging autocrats and emerging autocratic states.
